Dental crowns (also known as caps) are designed to restore your damaged or weak teeth by covering the affected area.

They can be used to repair implants, as well as cover fillings and support dental bridges. However, strengthening teeth is not the limit as the crowns can also improve the appearance of your teeth, including their alignment and shape.

How are crowns fitted?

After numbing the gums with a local anaesthetic, the dentist prepares the tooth (or implant) by reshaping it to make some room to fit the crown. Then, the crown gets cemented onto the tooth to repair, strengthen or improve it.

What materials are dental crowns made of?

Since not all materials are suitable for every person, dental crowns come in a variety of materials. Some of them include metals (for example gold or talladium), porcelain and resin, but your dentist will help you determine which option suits you.

What are the benefits of dental crowns?

  • Can restore and strengthen both natural teeth and implants
  • Can protect teeth from further fracture and damage
  • Come in a variety of materials
  • Suitable to work with dental fillings and bridges
  • Can improve the alignment and shape of your teeth
  • Can last for years when properly taken care of

You may also want to reinforce your teeth with hard-wearing solutions like inlays and onlays, which can be incredibly durable with proper care. Inlays and onlays are used to reinforce weakened teeth when simple fillings are not enough.

Additionally, we offer Emax Restorations® which are natural-looking, metal-free restorations designed to be used for crowns, bridges, veneers, inlays, onlays and implant crowns. Your dentist will discuss all the options that are appropriate for your needs.
